Forward Ever Backwards Never

“And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.

But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.”-Genesis 19:17,26

God commanded Lot and His family to flee from the Land of Sodom and Gomorrah because the wickedness of the people had inflicted the wrath of God upon them. The city was going to be consumed with “brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven” (v 24). They were told to “Escape for thy life; look not behind thee…” but the wife of Lot disobeyed. She looked back and became a pillar of salt! There are many lessons to be learnt from her example.

One, when we give our lives to Christ and surrender all at the cross, it is important for us to be faithful to that decision. “And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”-Luke 9:62 When we look back to the world and we once again desire the things we had let go by the grace of God, we fall in danger of hell fire.
Two, perhaps the wife of Lot could not believe that she was leaving the land of Sodom and Gomorrah without taking any of her possessions; she was the only person that looked back! We see clearly that as women many things in this world is capable of causing us to loose our Eternity in heaven with the Lord.

The devil has deceived us into thinking that being partakers of the fashion of the world when God has called us to be separate from the world, will not hinder us from entering Heaven. Because of this, he has caused many of us to become so attached to our hair attachments, make-up, jewelry, trousers etc. These things have become idols in our lives forcefully pulling us down to the pit of hell. We must understand that when we encounter Christ, we are from that instance, NEW CREATURES. We are to put on “the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”-Ephesians 4:24

There is absolutely no holiness in careless immodest dressing, painting our faces, piercing different parts of our bodies, and decorating our bodies with jewelries of various types! The Lord has commanded us to forsake the things that defile his temple (our bodies) and to appear before him naked (Job 1:21). Jewelry, trousers, artificial nails and hair are NOT worth more than your soul. Please ask for the grace of God to enable you to throw such away; do not allow a piece of the fashion of this world to make you a constituent of hell fire!

Hold on to the Word of God. Keep your hand on the plough. Don’t allow the fashion of the world to distract your attention from looking unto Jesus! “There is only one train that runs this track, and it runs to heaven!

May God help us to hold on to His Word in Jesus’ name – amen.
