Message: In Judges 4:4, the bible describes Deborah as “…a prophetess,” which means that she had a relationship with God. A prophet is an individual whom God has chosen to bring His word to humanity. To be a prophet is to be in right standing with God. Deborah was in right standing with God. The Bible further describes Deborah as “…the wife of Lapidoth,” she was a faithful wife to one man. She wasn’t a promiscuous woman in her community. She understood the covenant of marriage and lived according to God’s precepts of marriage: one man, one wife among others.
Lastly, the scriptures further report that “…she judged Israel at that time.” Deborah was a mighty leader. She was a professional woman. She had responsibilities at home as a wife and in her community as a professional. She was a balanced woman – with wisdom she balanced her relationship with God, her husband and her civil responsibility to serve her community as a judge. In order to be an effective judge, Deborah needed to have the knowledge of and abide by some ethical standards. Her relationship with God provided the guidance and principles to judge Israel judiciously and in a way that pleased God.

In conclusion, according to the life of Deborah, a fruitful and effective christian woman has a relationship with God, is faithful to God and to her husband, and she is a wise and balanced woman. No one aspect of her life supersedes or clashes with the other. She is a woman who wore many hats but performed each function of her life gracefully.
Modesty: modesty is applicable to the corporate setting! As a modest lady your attire in the work setting should differ from your counterparts. We must avoid the mini skirts and tight clothing in an effort to be business and professional women.
Our clothing should communicate professionalism as we adhere to the workplace expectations of dress and appear coordinated and clean. I personally like to wear blazers in corporate settings – blazers are a great way to add structure and color to any outfit. I also ensure that my ‘inserts’ (what I wear inside of blazers) in my blazers have a good neckline to encourage modesty. This is how I ensure that my neckline is modest.

Marriage: My advice for intending couples is that they must ensure that both or one of them is gainfully employed prior to marriage. The fact is that pregnancy can happen immediately after marriage irrespective of the use of contraceptives. In addition, pregnancy and the care of babies can be quite expensive! Therefore, during the courtship stage, the couple must carefully and intentionally have a good financial plan and accommodation for themselves and the possibility of another life.
If these plans are not in place, I would recommend that the couple holds off the wedding until their means of financial gain and sustainment is addressed. Both parties should gain some financial literacy and share how each approaches money. It is also important to share assets, sources of income, debts, etc. By God’s grace my husband and I discussed this topic at length prior to marriage. Although we were not where we wanted to be financially speaking, we had sufficient to proceed with marriage. We ultimately trusted God by doing our part and we can say that He has remained faithful.

Motherhood: in our pursuit of our careers outside of the home, it is important to ensure proper childcare as a professional woman. Before having children think and talk about with your spouse who will take care of your children when you are out working. Children are very delicate beings and we must be very careful in whose care we leave our children.
The Enemy is still after children and he often uses some ‘caretakers’ to abuse and misuse innocent children. As a believer prayerfully approach this topic with your spouse and allow the Lord to lead. I am grateful for my work because I work three nights a week and have four days off so I stay with our children when I am off from work.
But when away to work, my parents remain our primary caretakers of our children and we are so grateful to the Lord for them. My husband and I are full time employees. I work the night shift as a registered nurse while he works during the day. As our children are growing we are praying about their schooling and trusting the Lord to guide us along that path as well.
